Unique Caucasian Flat-weave Kilim Textile Museum Quality Red Blue Geometric 5×12
4′ 8″ x 11′ 7″ (142 x 353cm), Circa last quarter of 19th Century, Caucasus, Very Good Condition, DSC07766
Dramatic kilims (kelims) were produced by villagers and tribal nomads in the Caucasus–the current countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and Dagestan. Slit tapestry predominated. The pieces are often large, and typically have clear coloring and bold patterns. Designs often consist of large hooked medallions arrayed in bands. Most kilims are solid one piece but this particular piece has been woven in two panels and been sowed together later.
